Where Casa Fratocchi is

Our apartment lies very near to the Appia Antica Park. The Via Latina Tombs (500 mt from the apartment), the Caffarella Valley (800 mt from here) and the Villa dei Quintili (reachable by bus or by car) are part of this archaeological park. Via Appia Antica can be reached in a few minutes by bus 660 or walking through the Caffarella Valley Along the Appia Antica you can see many elements and monuments that bear witness to the history of Rome: the Circus and Massenzio’s imperial palace, Cecilia Metella’s huge round mausoleum, the Villa dei Quintili, the large cylindrical sepulchre, known as Casal Rotondo; there are catacombs that date back to the first centuries of Christianity such as those of S. Callisto, , S. Sebastiano, (the Basilica above this is very popular with visitors); there are numerous mediaeval, renaissance and baroque churches along the way, Santa Maria in Palmis, well known as Quo vadis; mediaeval towers and fortifications, often built on the ruins of Roman monuments, like the castle built by the Tuscolo counts around the sepulchre of Cecilia Metella.
The Park of Via Latina Tombs (in front of the apartment ) is a route which brings the visitor to another important artery of ancient Rome, the via Latina. Part of the original road surface is still visible and is in a good state of repair, to the side of the road are important funeral monuments inside which it is possible to see stucco decorations and frescoes of extraordinary value (the Valeri and Pancrazi tombs).

The apartment is 100 mt away from the metro A (red line – Arco di Travertino stop)  which takes you to the centre of Rome in about 10 minutes
